He doesn't (currently) have any superhuman abilities, but he has an awful lot of human ones. He has PhDs in Archaeology, Anthropology, and Philology. He speaks almost 30 different languages (several of them alien or ancient), and he's generally level-headed and well-spoken, which makes him a good diplomat. He's proficient with firearms (mainly Berettas and P-90s) and hand-to-hand combat. He can do research for 30 hours straight while only running on coffee. He's got some experience with midwifery - he's delivered three babies. And he's picked up a lot of stuff about astrophysics and space travel and various supertechnology over the years, and can fly an alien spaceship in a pinch.
