Abridged history

Daniel was born in 1965 to archaeologist parents, who died in a tragic accident in front of him when he was 8 years old. His grandfather refused to adopt him, and Daniel ended up in foster care. Beginning university at the age of just 16, Daniel became an archaeologist himself, as well as a linguist and anthropologist, with PhDs from UCLA and Chicago's Oriental Institute. However, he was eventually ostracised from the scientific community for his radical theories involving cross-pollination of ancient cultures and the Egyptian pyramids being landing sites for alien spaceships, far older than previously thought.

At age 30, Daniel was then recruited to work for the US Air Force, where he deciphered the mysteries of the Stargate, a wormhole portal allowing travel between planets and even galaxies. He travelled to a planet called Abydos (reminiscent of Ancient Egypt), where he helped overthrow an alien overlord posing as their god. When the rest of the team went home and pretended (for their protection) that Abydos had been destroyed, Daniel stayed behind and married a woman named Sha're.

Almost two years later, the Stargate was opened again, and both his wife Sha're and his brother-in-law Skaara were kidnapped and used as hosts by alien parasites. Daniel joined Stargate Command and team SG-1 to look for them by going on missions through the Stargate. He functioned primarily as diplomat and cultural expert, arguing for peace and collaboration as the voice of morality, and was often essential to the success of the missions. He eventually found his wife again, but was unable to save her, as she ended up being killed. He was however able to save Skaara and return him to Abydos. He continued as part of SG-1 even after this.

In a time when he was increasingly defeated by feelings of loss, grief and failure, Daniel was mortally injured after sacrificing himself to save lives. However before he died, with help, he ascended to a higher plane of existence, believing he could do more to help people. This was not the first time he'd died, though it seemed to be the first time it would remain permanent. He existed in non-corporeal form for a year, not all-knowing, but certainly very powerful and knowledgeable. However, he found it impossible to adhere to the rule of non-interference imposed by the other Ascended beings, and he descended back to human form.

The Ascended wiped his memory, as he was not allowed to retain the knowledge of the Ascended. The rest of SG-1 eventually found him and brought him back home, and slowly he regained his pre-Ascension memories and identity, and rejoined SG-1 to continue his work of fighting alien threats and exploring the universe.
