FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Daniel is 6 feet tall, broad-shouldered and bulky. However, he has a generally non-threatening disposition and gentle demeanour most of the time, hands in pockets, head tilted downwards, making himself seem smaller than he really is. He usually keeps clean shaven, though now he doesn't have regular razors it's not uncommon to see him with stubble. He's fair-skinned, but has a slight tan, and short brown hair. Whenever he's at home or the library, he wears his glasses, but he often takes them off while out and about, since replacing them is trickier here. He dresses in an fairly casual, unassuming manner, having adopted a more native style, seeing as he only has the one outfit from home. He has an American accent, Northern, with a good bit of Canadian thrown in. He's usually calm and friendly when greeting others, though if he's explaining something complicated then his mouth will go about a mile a minute. If he is distressed or angry however, he will not hesitate to let it be known. He communicates with his entire body, and his hands and eyebrows are particularly acrobatic. He does have military training, and may assume a more confident and imposing posture when needed.

You are most likely to encounter him studying in the library, and he's got a private room in the mage tower. He'll also be out and about talking to people and exploring Kirkwall occasionally, if you want to meet him elsewhere.

Reputation

He's a big nerd, in other words a scholar, and an explorer. However, it won't be a secret that he also has military training. He'll probably have a reputation for being generally friendly, but possibly quite annoying and inquisitive, especially towards authority figures.

He will generally be very private about his personal history and background, so little of that will be known to others.

A few people thinks he's a mage, due to him using a staff weapon during his arrival. Spending most of his time reading books probably doesn't help.

Hooks

At the moment my main hook will simply be getting Daniel acquainted with Thedas and its people, which means he will be willing to talk to almost anyone, at length. And ask lots and lots of questions.

He also wants to get much more involved in research projects, and whenever there's a discussion on rights for various oppressed groups and related topics, he tends to butt his head in in favour of the underdogs.
