Family

Sha're

Wife (deceased)

Daniel found himself unexpectedly married on his first off-world trip, on the planet Abydos. Despite initial miscommunication, Daniel and Sha're built a relationship on respect and a shared passion for discovery and learning. She reminded Daniel to see the wonder in things, and he stayed behind of the planet to be with her.

A year later she was taken prisoner and possessed by a goa'uld, and Daniel re-joined the Stargate program to save her. His efforts were sadly unsuccesful, and two years after she was taken, Sha're was killed. Her last words, freed from possession, were "I love you, Daniel."

While he still misses her and blames himself for her death, four years after her death, Daniel at least draws comfort from the fact that she is no longer suffering.

Shifu

Step-son (ascended)

During her possession, Sha're was made pregnant by the goa'uld Apophis. The pregnancy returned her mind to her, and Daniel helped her through delivery, then protected the boy from the goa'uld.

Genetically enhanced to age faster, Shifu was raised by an ascended being named Oma Desala. Because of his parentage, his mind contained all the knowledge of the goa'uld, and he ascended at a young age, to protect the world from that knowledge.

Kasuf

Father-in-law (ascended)

Kasuf was the leader of the people of Abydos, and father of Sha're and Skaara. He guided his people with care, and though perhaps a bit old-fashioned, him and Daniel got on well.

Like all the people of Abydos, he was ascended to a higher plane of existence by Oma Desala, when the planet was destroyed during the Battle of Abydos in less than a year ago.

Skaara

Brother-in-law (ascended)

Sha're younger brother, Skaara was a passionate and playful Abydonian. He had a brotherly relationship with Daniel as well, looking up to him without being particularly reverent.

Skaara was taken as a goa'uld host at the same time as Sha're, and was under their control for over two years. However, Skaara was eventually freed when a trial was held to decide whether he or his goa'uld symbiote had priority over the body.

He returned to life on Abydos, and assisted the currently ascended Daniel in protecting the planet. He was mortally wounded, and ascended by Oma before the planet was destroyed.

Melburn & Claire

Parents (deceased)

Daniel's parents, Melburn Jackson and Claire Ballard, were both archaeologists and Egyptologists, like their son, who they referred to as Danny. While growing up, Daniel joined them on many archaeological expeditions and travels.

When Daniel was 8, his parents were both killed in an accident at New York Museum of Art, when they were crushed by a falling capstone, right in front of Daniel. He was then put into foster care, though he went to university already at the age of 16.

Nicholas Ballard

Grandfather (gone)

Also an archaeologist, Daniel didn't have a lot of contact with Nick while growing up. When Daniel's parents died, Nick refused to adopt Daniel, too obsessed with his work, eventually driven mad by it and checked himself into a psychiatric institute.

As an adult, Daniel visited Nick regularly, as his only living relative. A few months before Daniel joined the Stargate program, yjru had a big fight about Daniel throwing his life away on ridiculous theories about aliens, similar to what had happened to Nick.

They reconnected a few years later, but Nick ended up staying behind on an alien planet, and Daniel has not been able to see him since.
